Wind Maps for Rhode Island
ProvPlan recently completed a series of maps depicting average wind speed throughout the State.  This work was done as part of a statewide wind resource assessment, which came at the request of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation and the Wind Power Rhode Island Project of Roger Williams University. Data were developed by AWS TrueWind, company specializing in wind energy analysis services.

The purpose of the assessment was to explore the potential for placing wind-driven turbines in the state to generate energy similar to successful efforts in Hull, Massachusetts.  The next phase of this work will be to identify potential on shore and offshore turbine sites by overlaying strong wind areas with topography, property, and land use data. For more information on this project, contact Jim Lucht.
